I believe the Urban Data School has the opportunity to make an impact in providing our children with the skills required to succeed in a data-driven society.

Our work with Urban Data Schools has been well-received by both staff and pupils. It has provided data on real, topical issues and has helped them to see the relevance and power of data.

Data literacy is the ability to ask and answer real-world questions using complex data sets. It is based on applying core practical and creative skills. These skills include the abilities to select, clean, analyse, visualise, critique and interpret data; to tell stories from data; and to use data as part of question design process.
The Urban Data School is helping to equip students with the data literacy skills to reach their full potential.
Urban Data School aims to equip children with the data literacy skills to succeed in our information-driven economy and society. Our vision is for every citizen in the UK to be data-literate in the same way we are literate and numerate today. Our approach is to make curated urban datasets available to schools with accompanying curriculum materials and resources to enable students to acquire core data literacy skills.
21st-century society is experiencing an information revolution, but our students risk being left behind. The UK’s educational system has not caught up with the demand for data literacy – a critical skill for understanding how the world works in this digital age. The ability to use and interpret data will prepare students to actively engage personally and professionally in the political, economic, social and environmental decisions affecting society.
What is data literacy?
What do we do?
What is the challenge?
The Urban Data School is a new venture. We are actively seeking partnerships with city councils and businesses wanting to promote and provide schools with the necessary resources to support students gain data literacy skills. If you are from a school interested to access our data literacy skills teaching platform and resources, please register your interest.
